Navy seized 4,000 ya ba pills in Ban Chang drug arrest

Royal Thai Navy drug-enforcement officers arrested a Sattahip taxi driver and his wife suspected of drug dealing, seizing 4,000 methamphetamine tablets in Ban Chang.

Nattapong Phalamit, 35, and Suphatra Sriyai, 26, were taken into custody Sept. 10 at a house in Ban Chang. About 40,000 baht in cash was also recovered.

Navy officers alleged the two worked for a drug kingpin identified only as “Khong,” who is believed to be hiding out in Laos, and have been distributing ya ba in Chonburi and Rayong.

The arrest came after the Navy used an undercover operative to arrange a drug buy. Investigators said the couple brought the 4,000 ya ba pills from Bangkok and were apprehended when money changed hands.

Ban Chang police, assisting in the arrest, said the pair confessed to selling at least 10,000 pills previously.
