NARATHIWAT, May 21 – The hotel industry in this southern border province has been shaken by Saturday’s bombing at the Asia Hotel in the town centre.

The incident prompted other hotels to be on alert for possible violence, even as foreign tourists have cancelled their bookings.

The explosion at the Asia Hotel in Su-ngai Kolok town last Saturday damaged about 20 rooms, water and electricity systems. The hotel has been closed since then.

The operator of the Imperial Hotel said the incident has impacted the morale of other hoteliers and seriously affected the hotel business.

Adisorn Wongteerarit, Asia Hotel owner, said the damage from the blast was estimated at Bt1.5 million and renovation should take at least 90 days.

The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre has offered initial assistance of Bt100,000.

Mr Adisorn asked for more financial aid from the government.
