Dr. Pradit said that the number of dengue fever patients dropped to 5,500 nationwide in the previous week. According to the ministry's war room evaluation reports, 24 provinces in the northern and northeastern regions are prone to the disease, especially Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pissanulok, Roi Et, Khon Kan, Mahasarakam, Nakhonpanom, and Nakhonratchasima.
The minister stated that he had ordered public health officials in those 24 provinces to step up their prevention measures and to closely monitor the local dengue fever situation. He urged officials to focus on villages reporting new patients 3 weeks in a row.
Dr. Pradit also urged public health volunteers to rally villagers to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds in their areas.
The Minister said that dengue fever could be easily contained if local administration permanently put these preventive measures into local laws.
