CHIANG MAI, 2 July 2014, - Soldiers in Chiang Mai have seized more than 8 million meth pills and several military- grade weapons during its campaign to eliminate criminal activities in the area.
According to Major General Banjerd Changpoonthong, Pha Muang Commander, officials have been able to confiscate 8.8 million tablets of methamphetamine, 300 kg of heroin, 400 kg of ICE, and 20 kg of marijuana during their raids in 23 districts in the provinces of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, and Phitsanulok. They were also able to seize 176 firearms, 4,000 rounds of ammunition, 222 dynamites, and 1,000 other explosives.
The military has also deported 145 illegal workers from Myanmar, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam, while thwarting illegal logging rings operating in the areas.
Meanwhile,, 4 suspects were arrested for possessing illicit drugs in Ratchaburi Province. Officials confiscated homemade firearms, cash, and narcotic substances the suspects were carrying at the time.
