BANGKOK, 28 August 2014 – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has insisted that the resignation of their members will not affect the body’s operations and responsibilities.

Three more members of the NLA have tendered their resignation, leaving only 194 of the 200 originally appointed. Narongchai Akaraserani, Korbkan Suriyasat, and Rachata Rachatanavin resigned from their seats in the NLA.

NLA president Pornpetch Wichitcholachai said that there are still enough members to convene their meetings and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will determine whether new members will be assigned to the Assembly.

The announcement was made during Thursday’s fourth NLA meeting amid heavy security. The meeting will also be informed of the official royal command for the designation of General Prayuth Chan-ocha as the new Prime Minister.
