Mobile-government event draws residents of 4 Pattaya neighborhoods

City hall came to four Pattaya neighborhoods with free food, haircuts and services in the latest “mobile government” outreach effort.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn joined city council members and Pattaya Police officers at the Feb. 18 event opposite the Hollywood disco in North Pattaya. Taking advantage of the services and products on offer were about 300 residents of the Paniad Chang, Soi 6 Yodsak, Nong Or and Roi Lang communities.

The city donated 400 bags of rice to low-income residents and Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities provided free electronic services. The Elderly Welfare Center brought low-priced products from Big C to sell and the Jutamas Beauty School provided free haircuts.

Community leaders also explained what their organization is doing for neighbors.

Sriwipa Plomesuk, president of the Paniad Chang Community, which provided food and drinks at the event, said that the group has 15 committee members who keep eyes on what’s going on in the neighborhood and report to the city in time of trouble.

Kraipob Oonwoon, 40, the president of the Soi 6 Yodsak group, said the organization offers public health care and a pawn shop for people in the community which mostly are people from the northeast who came to work in Pattaya.

Phanom Lianpreecha, 48, the president of the Nong Or Community, said there are 900 households in the neighborhood. It produces air fresheners, scented candles, wreaths, and runs a sound system business. It holds aerobic dance classes every Monday-Thursday and on March 10 will teach ballroom dancing to prepare for competitions in the future.

Wanchana Roobo, a community development assistant, said that the city mobile service is held every month and the next one will be held on the March 14 at Pattaya School No. 2.
