CHIANG MAI, Feb 22 - Fire in the emergency ward building at Nakhon Ping Hospital in this northern city prompted an emergency patient evacuation and confusion for a time.

The fire broke out around midnight in a medical equipment storage room.

Smoke spread though and around the building and hospital workers and patients alike had difficulty breathing. However, no one was injured.

The authorities initially believed the cause of the fire came from a suction apparatus that had been operating too long and which caught fire from overheating.
