BANGKOK, 14 February 2014  The Public Health Ministry has reassured that medical teams will be put on standby round the clock in case of emergency during February 14-16.

In light of possible violence during the long holiday weekend, Dr. Narong Sahametapat, Permanent-Secretary for Public Health Ministry, said mobile medical units would be on 24-hour alert to assist those in need.

Medical assistance will be provided in all risk-prone areas and help will be equally given to everyone regardless of who they are, according to the permanent secretary.

The ministry has been closely monitoring situations in several areas such as Pratunam, Silom, Bang Rak, the Interior Ministry, and the Government Complex in Chaeng Watthana, the doctor said.

629 injuries and 11 deaths have been reported since the anti-government protests started on 30 November 2013; only 12 people are still recovering in hospital, disclosed Dr. Narong.
