Marching band competition parades through Pattaya

More than 20 marching bands from five countries paraded down Beach Road as the Thailand International Marching Band Festival blew into Pattaya.

Squads from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand marched from Central Road to Royal Garden Plaza in the three-day competition’s opening round. Chonburi’s Cholrasadorn Aumrung School went on to win the event April 4 in Suphanburi, taking home 50,000 baht in prizes. Ratchabophit Bangkok School finished second and Phanphiset Aumphur Phan School of Chiang Rai took third.

Saengjan Worsuman, dean of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Physical Education Department, and Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh kicked off the festival April 2.

The ministry organized the competition to promote recreational activities that will improve the minds and health of Thai youths. It also was aimed at showcasing the kingdom’s young marching bands and fostering better relations with neighboring countries.
