Local officials spruce up Pattaya before Songkran

Chonburi’s governor joined Pattaya officials in giving Pattaya’s streets a clean sweep before they get covered in powder for Songkran.

Pakarathorn Thienchai joined Mayor Anan Charoenchasri, Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong and city workers at the March 28 “big cleaning day” on Pattaya Beach.

The event was organized to emphasize the province’s “three Rs” – reduce waste, reuse water and recycle.

Garbage reduction focuses on cutting the amount of waste disposed of at the source, with families and businesses separating recyclables.

Officials also stressed the need for better traffic discipline during the deadliest time of the year on Thai roads. Drivers and passengers must wear helmets and seat belts and not drive drunk, they said.

Officials and volunteers spread from Walking Street to Central Road, cleaning and repainting traffic-lane lines and fixing signs.
