Women doing time at the Pattaya Remand Prison were treated to a solid meal thanks to Banglamung district officials.

Naris Niramaiwong, police chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech and judges from the Pattaya Provincial Court treated 611 female prisoners to lunch Sept. 8.

Thai prison food is notoriously putrid with nearly all inmates are dependent on family or friends to feed them or supply ingredients so they can cook themselves.

Naris said the visit was organized to cheer up the women they put behind bars. He said he hopes the convicts will become better people once their sentences are finished.

He said more government visits are planned with some well-behaved inmates taken out for community service work.
