Lamphun governor Pinit Harnpanich said assistance has been provided to prevent water shortage and for agricultural use. Local residents are warned to conserve water.
Drought in Lamphun affects agriculture and livestock farming every year, as reservoir areas there can reserve only a limited amount of water of around 50 million cubic metres.
Meanwhile, in Uttaradit province, the drought situation has become more serious, as there is a water supply shortage in some areas, resulting in insufficient water for household use.
In Pha Luad sub-district of Tha Pla district, local authorities have been distributing clean water to 2,500 families in 13 villages. Water has been pumped from the Nan River at a maximum of 20,000 litres/day to alleviate water shortages.
Chanarong Sang-ngern, chief of Pha Luad Subdistrict Administrative Organization, asked local residents to use water economically, as drought conditions there are expected to continue for at least another 3 months.
