NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 18 August 2012  – In determining the overall impact of suspended rainfall in the province, the Office of Agriculture of Nakhon Ratchasima, undertook an investigation. Initially, it was found that over 1 million rai of paddies have been damaged.

Nakhon Ratchasima’s Office of Agriculture has instructed each of its district branches to quickly assess the damages, in order to prepare a proposal for the Nakhon Ratchasima governor to declare the affected areas drought zones. This will lead to assistance for the farmers.

Help for affected farmers in the initial stage is underway in 21 districts. Royal rainmaking has been requested, and operations for artificial rain have quickly begun. However, the amount of rainfall in the target area is still very low. If there is not enough rain, the Office of Agriculture of Nakhon Ratchasima may have to declare no less than 5 districts as drought zones.
