KRABI, March 7 – Thailand’s Provincial Waterworks Authority at it’s office here, said this year the province has been more impacted by drought than in other years.

Somchai Kulthananat, the local manager, said there has been no rain since mid-December, causing stored water resources from Khao Phanom Bencha National Park to recede, affecting the amount of water in the Krabi Yai canal which supplies the local water supply.

Water supply availability will be reduced if there is no rain by the end of this month. Due to the reduced supply, water might also have to be rationed, distributed zone by zone at different times.

Mr Somchai asked the public to use water economically and prepare containers to store water in readiness for periods when water distribution is suspended.

Provincial Waterworks Authority officers in Krabi are putting up sandbag embankments 50cm high to help save water at the local raw water pumping station to support more than 20,000 households in the provincial seat.
