Korat man nabbed for convenience store robberies

Provincial police have arrested a man wanted for a half dozen convenience store robberies in Pattaya.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thanet Pinmueng-ngam, commissioner of Region 2 Police, along with Chonburi and Nongprue officers announced the capture of Pai Absarum, 27, Sept. 25.

The Nakhon Ratchasima native was accused of robbing mini markets at knifepoint. Police recovered identification and ATM cards of victims from him, along with two knives and methamphetamine paraphernalia.

Thanet said that, among his crimes, he was responsible for the June 28 robbery of 22-year-old Nantinee Khunnongbua’s motorbike from in front of a 7-Eleven store at the Mitkamol intersection in Nongprue.

He claimed that bike was used in subsequent crimes, including at least one attempted rape. In all, he was wanted for six separate crimes, Thanet said.

At the press conference, Pai confessed he worked sporadically for his parents near Saothongthong Temple and was addicted to crystal methamphetamine. He said he committed robberies and attempted rapes when he was high.

Owners of the convenience stores victimized thanked police with flower baskets.
