Pattaya officials inspected Jomtien Beach with an eye toward unifying the look of all beach umbrellas.

Deputy Mayor Bandit Khunajak, municipal police chief Pol. Maj. Jirawat Sukontasap and legal chief Sretapol Boonsawat checked that beach chair vendors had not exceeded their 9-by-7-meter plots and had no more than 24 chairs deployed.

They also measured umbrellas, ensuring they were not wider than 200 centimeters and that each plot had no more than 25 of them.

Sretapol suggested that all umbrellas on Pattaya beaches should be the same size and color, and placed close together to provide uniform shade. Doing so would protect beach-goers from the savage sun and give the beach a more-pleasing look, he said.
