A mentally ill woman removed from a wooded area of Jomtien Beach is believed responsible for the slaughter of dozens of dogs.

The 42-year-old woman, identified only as “Porn”, was removed from the grown-over, privately owned lot on Jomtien Second Road in the middle of last month and committed to Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry in Bangkok.

On March 23, officials led by Pattaya City Councilman Amnuai Somphongtham returned to inspect her living area and found the bones of as many as 60 dogs, their skulls hung from trees and carcasses scattered across the ground. The stench of rotted flesh hung in the air.

Pattaya municipal police office Somchai Inruang said Porn was known to be living with 10 dogs, but several neighbors had reported their pets going missing.

Neighbors said Porn was an aggressive woman with wild mood swings. She had a habit of lacing her living area with spoiled crabs and drove around the area ranting at people from her sidecar motorbike.

Officials were still investigating the animal remains before determining whether to take further action against the woman committed to the mental hospital.
