On July the 23rd at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva chaired the opening of the 23rd International Olympiad in Informatics, this is the first time the event has been held in Thailand and will run until the 29th of July.
There were 300 young kids in 79 teams from 78 countries who participated in the tournament and Thailand had its own team consisting of 4 high school kids.

People could log onto www.IOI2011.or.th to check the daily results and try sample challenges.
The competition is geared to encourage kids to think innovatively and tackle computer problems and get ahead of the advancements of computer technology.
