Inspector Srongboon Wuthiwong led a team to the Saphan Pla Bridge in Ang Sila Sub-district May 11 where the 7.2-million-baht project was halted in August.

The bridge project was initiated after problems with boat moorings, so a new taller bridge was budgeted. However, a string of problems led to three different contractors all abandoning the project.

The most recent contractor complained they needed more money to cover over-runs and rental of specialized equipment that could be used in the water.

Sub-district officials are now requesting a budget for a 10-million-baht piece of machinery – which would cost more than the entire bridge construction. In response, the Interior Ministry came to see for itself what was going on.

Ministry officials said another meeting will be held on the budget request, but the entire job might be put out for another bid to hire the fourth, and hopefully final, contractor to build the bridge.
