Interior Ministry ordered related agencies to prompt for possible flooding

BANGKOK, 25 February 2012  – The Interior Ministry has instructed all agencies related to flood prevention to work harder on the preparation for possible inundation later this year. 

Deputy Interior Minister Thanit Thienthong said that the Ministry of Interior has urged the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to collaborate with the city halls of 11 provinces in the lower region of Chao Phraya River, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and related agencies to prepare for possible flooding that may occur later in the year.

Mr. Thanit said that a meeting of all these agencies has stressed on the implementation of ideas and suggestions raised during the discussions in their prevention measures, while taking into consideration the environmental impact, the building up of a tool and equipment warehouse, and a unified line of command and more participation from people of sides.

Mr. Viboon Sanguanpong, Director General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), added that all related provincial offices and agencies are now working on the improvement of their flood prevention measures and drills, which is believed to complete before the rainy season starts in the middle of this year.
