BANGKOK, 9 April 2012 – Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has launched a CCTV project titled ‘Smart Eyes’, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Police, during the Songkran festival.

According to ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap, due to an upward trend in crimes during the festival, the ministry is rolling out the Smart Eyes project between April 8 and18. The scheme, a joint effort of the Ministry and the Royal Thai Police’s neighbourhood crime watch project, is aimed at providing extra security for residential properties

The pilot project kicked off at Choke Chai police station on April 8,under which the station began installing CCTV cameras on homes already registered under the crime watch initiative. Footage captured is transmitted to a centralized server, allowing the police to provide 24-hour security for nearby residents.

Mr Anudith added that residents can keep watch on their homes by logging in on their iPhones to view the camera’s live-stream.
