Historical King Taksin horse parade moves through Pattaya

Pattaya residents greeted a nationwide horse procession honoring the 18th century’s King Taksin the Great in full traditional Thai attire when it arrived in Pattaya.

Suchart Kanokrat, 43, president of the Follow in the Footsteps of King Taksin Club, is leading the historical parade from Ayutthaya to Chantaburi. On Day 16 of the 33-day trek, his horses arrived at Phothisamphan Temple in Naklua.

The stop, coordinated by the Naval Military Police Regiment and Banglamung Police Station, was warmly greeted by locals dressed in traditional Thai costumes.

The procession is following the route King Taksin took 248 years ago to fight back Thailand’s independence from Burma. The parade moved to Wang Sam Sien on Pratamnak Road on April 1 before departing Pattaya eastward.
