HAT YAI, Sept 27 - Hat Yai mayor Prai Pattano on Thursday ordered security beef up in this commercial hub of Songkhla province and the Thai South to monitor activities and prevent insurgent attacks.

The mayor’s order follows recent bombings in the southern province of Pattani which claimed scores of lives.

Mr Prai said security officials have been deployed in both in the business, commercial and tourism centre and as well as the wider vicinity of the city around the clock, while suspicious activities will be monitored through closed circuit television monitors which have already been installed in some 800 locations.

Concerned officials are now working closely with police, said the mayor, adding that if any suspected person or suspicious vehicle is found, they will inspect the scene immediately.

Mr Prai said that more CCTVs will be installed to cover all areas to prevent any violence.
