SONGKHLA, Feb 18 - Hoteliers in Thailand's commercial town of Hat Yai are stepping up security measures to guard against any violent incident following a string of weekend bombings in the southern province of Pattani.

Somchart Pimthanapoonporn, president of the Hat Yai-Songkhla Hotel Association, said members ensured guests that their hotel premises are equipped with expanded security systems.

In addition, he said more close-circuit cameras have been put in place, security guards also strictly and thoroughly check all vehicles and motorcycles. Drivers and passengers alike are required to step out of vehicles with motors and are not allowed to park at any hotels and department store carparks, he said.

The security measures help boost confidence among hoteliers, travellers and tourists which are 70 per cent pre-bookings for the upcoming Songkran festival, Mr Somchart said.
