Mr. Plodprasop Suraswadi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairperson of the National Water and Flood Management Committee, revealed after a visit to Bang Banwa District that the had instructed provincial governors to survey the residences of the people living along rivers and flood-prone areas every year, so the government would be able to assist them in raising their homes above potential floodwater levels. The military, vocational educational institutions, and relevant experts would be asked to implement these measures. According to him, the Prime Minister is truly concerned with the well-being of the people, and has instructed that full assistance be provided to them.
Meanwhile, local residents in Ayutthaya Province have been urged to remain calm despite the rising water levels resulted from Pa Sak Cholasit Dam releasing more water over the past 2 days. The government affirms that the volume of the water being released remains controllable and is much less than the 1,100 cubic meters per second of water released in 2011.
The deputy prime minister added that the government' s plan to dig a new river in Ayutthaya Province will greatly benefit local residents by leading to more roads and electricity. During his visit to the province, the Deputy Prime Minister also distributed relief packages to flood victims.
