BANGKOK, 31 March 2015  – The government is planning to declare its campaign to fight human trafficking a national agenda.

Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon said that the current government is not blaming the previous administration for the problems of human trafficking.

Gen. Prawit stated that he only feels the past government has not scratched the right itch and did not do anything to change the laws in line with international practice.

He added that the present government will declare on April 3 that the anti-human trafficking effort is a national agenda.

The DPM also conceded that the fact that state officials’ being allegedly involved in human trafficking is a big issue that the international community has been looking at.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has declined to respond to a statement of former PM Yingluck Shinawatra related to the problem of human trafficking, saying it is worth taking into consideration all issues that have been accumulated and remained unresolved.
