Prime Minister's Officer permanent secretary, Thongthong Chandarangsu, said the government is scheduled to organize a celebration in honor of Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana on the occasion of her 150th birthday anniversary on September 10. Exhibitions showcasing her royal projects during her lifetime will be held in conjunction with the main event.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn who recently chaired the meeting of the event organizing committee said the late Queen was known for her keen interest in education. She founded girls’ schools with her daughter, late Princess Valaya Alongkorn as well as establishing scholarships for nursing students.
Her Majesty Queen Savang Vadhana also contributed greatly to Thailand’s healthcare science and cultural preservation and development.
Queen Savang Vadhana was one of the royal consorts of King Chulalongkorn, or King Rama V. She was also the grandmother of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, hence the title of the Queen Grandmother. She passed away in 1955 at the age of 93.
