Nong Plalai checked the lunch offerings at the sub district-run preschool amid national scrutiny about food being served to students.

Clerk Bavorn Mulsaku and education director Wirawan Kamjun conducted the inspection of Nong Plalai Municipal Child Development Center June 19. They found the menu covered all the major food groups.

Kids and teachers that day were served tofu soup with pork, seaweed, carrots, fish balls and bananas in coconut milk.

Bavorn said each term teachers and staff devise menus, which are then submitted to the Education Department. Once approved, the menus are sent to the contracted caterer who prepares the meals according to the sub-district’s specifications.

The child development center takes an additional step by not preparing food until after the kids are in the cafeteria to prevent flies from swarming around food trays.

As a result, Bavorn said, food at both the Nong Plalai CDC and Wat Nong Ket Yai CDC meets all standards.
