Food and nutrition care believed to reduce obesity rate by 11%

BANGKOK, 1 May 2014  – The Department of Health is launching a campaign to reduce number of overweight children in Thailand by 11 percent within 10 years by supporting food and nutrition care in the provinces.

Yesterday, Narong Saiwongse, M.D., the Deputy Director – General of the Department of Health, spoke on the topic: "Model provinces develop food and nutrition care for Thai children's health". He explained that the main missions included: 1) increasing food and nutrition management in child care centers and schools, 2) improving and driving public policy in food and nutrition management from local level into action, and 3) preparing healthier meals for kids at home.

This plan is expected to help reduce the obesity rate from 17 percent to 11 percent within 10 years.
