Flashflood hits Myanmar, dozens of people missing

BANGKOK, 21 October 2011  – Government officials of Myanmar revealed that today flashflood hit the central part of Myanmar, resulting in approximately 60 missing locals in Pakokku.

Morever, due to heavy rains, the water in the river rose and inundated the locals’ accommodations along the banks. A temple and some houses were destroyed by the flood currents. According to a monk, the water level is possibly about three metres high. However, death tools have not yet been reported.

Apart from Thailand, many countries in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines and Loas, are encountering severe floods. Earlier the United Nation also reported that more than 700 people have died and 8,000 people have been affected by the deluge.
