PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 19 November 2012 - A one-meter-high flash flood in Prachuap Khiri Khan province has affected over 100 households.

A low pressure storm caused rains to persist in the province throughout the day yesterday. The raining culminated in a flash flood from Tanowsri mountain, which inundated Salalai and Silaloi sub-districts in Samroiyod district, damaging over 100 households.

Several schools and a district temple were also affected. While the situation has improved, motor vehicles have still been unable to pass through the area.

Meanwhile, the drought situation in Tak province has worsened after Bhumibol dam reduced its daily release of water in order to save reserves for next summer. The reduction has resulted in sand dunes and patches of dry land appearing along the Ping River, which has prompted locals to fear that they will be unable to celebrate the upcoming Loy Krathong festival. Officials have nonetheless assured that the dam will be releasing water into the river for the celebration.
