Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department officer Yuttanan Fuangfoo, 39, and his partner used a basket truck to reach the third-floor balcony of a commercial building near the At Home Resort on Soi Arunothai Oct. 5.

Apparently abandoned and emaciated, the dog appeared happy to be rescued and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and shelter until its owner is found. If no one claims the dog, it will be housed there until adopted.

Yuttanan said stranded animal calls are common, but he is happy to respond, as he puts equal value on the lives of people and pets.

Paweena Kullawanit, 26, called authorities after spotting the pooch pacing aimlessly on the balcony. She said the building was vacant and the dog had obviously been left there for some time.
