Banglamung officials donated food and cash to the owner of a Khao Maikaew warehouse that burned down, causing 2 million baht in damage.

District Chief Naris Niramaiwong and Banglamung Red Cross members on June 21 brought rice, dried food and a small amount of cash compensation to 23-year-old Pongkorn Phutho, owner of the Nong Tason village building off Highway 331 that housed second-hand merchandise ranging from furniture to electronics.

Three fire trucks responded, but the inferno could not be controlled until the entire warehouse burned to the ground. Pongkorn’s wife and 3-year-old son, asleep upstairs, managed to escape without injury.

Kithinan Charoensuk, owner of an adjacent restaurant also damaged by the fire, said the blaze likely was started by someone burning an old tree in property behind the warehouse. That fire spread and engulfed the entire 1-rai facility.

Naris said the district council would consider additional compensation.
