Ex-deputy premier Phao Sarasin dies from blood infection

BANGKOK, March 8 — Former deputy prime minister and the 25th Police Chief Police General Pao Sarasin passed away at 8.55pm Thursday night at Siriraj Hospital from blood infection. He was 83 years old.

Gen Pao was admitted to the hospital for blood infection treatment more than one month ago.

A bathing rite ceremony will be held at Wat Benjamabophit at 4pm. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will represent His Majesty the King to grant water for the bathing rite at 6pm.

Gen Pao was deputy prime minister twice, during March 1991-March 1992 and June-September 1992, and interior minister in 1992 under the government of premier Anand Panyarachun.

He was director general of the police department in 1987, and was chief of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board from 1978 to 1983.

His last positions were as President of the University Council of Khon Kaen University in Khon Kaen province and President of the University Council of Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai province. (MCOT online news)
