BANGKOK, 2 July 2015  – The Ministry of Energy has approved an additional sum of 4.9 billion baht from the 2015 budget to finance energy conservation and development projects, said the Energy Minister.

Minister Narongchai Akrasanee has revealed that apart from the additional allocation, the Energy Conservation (ENCON) Fund Committee has approved a revolving fund of 1.5 billion baht to financial institutions that will extend loans to entrepreneurs who propose projects aimed at reducing energy consumption.

The ENCON Fund will also provide a budget for the replacement of lamps in public places with LED bulbs, and provide about 2.5 billion baht to promote the use of inverter system air conditioners.

On the energy security in the southern border areas, the ENCON Fund will support the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center to install solar powered LED lamps in urban communities and areas with high risk of violent incidents.

The Energy Ministry has indicated that the increase in the budget for energy conservation and development projects will help expedite the nation’s energy security plan, reduce the unnecessarily excessive use of energy, provide more energy choices, and help stimulate the Thai economy that is constantly recovering from investment in many projects.
