Election Commission drums up selection of the National Reform Council

BANGKOK, 8 August 2014 – The Election Commission (EC) has announced its readiness for the selection of candidates for the National Reform Council (NRC), the process of which will take 50 days beginning August 14th.

EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen told a press conference that the EC which acts as the secretarial unit of the Selection Committee, invited non-profit juristic persons to begin proposing their nominees for the National Reform Council to the EC. He also stressed the importance of the NRC, calling it the mechanism that would lead to the drawing up of a permanent constitution suitable for the administrative system under the constitutional monarchy.

According to him, the primary responsibilities of the NRC are to analyze and recommend ways for national reform in various aspects to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order.

The EC chairman urged members of the mass media to help support the selection of NRC members by keeping the public and juristic persons updated with right and thorough information on the selection process.
