Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said on Tuesday that the Cabinet has been updated on the current water situation across the country.
Mr. Plodprasop stated that the public should not worry about this year’s flood threat while saying that the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will lower the amount of water discharged from the Bhumibol Dam and the Sirikit Dam to a moderate level, in order to ease the impact of the shortage of rainfall.
This means EGAT will store more water to prepare for next year’s drought after water storage at both dams is at an average of 51 percent of the total capacity.
At the same time, EGAT will release more water from Vajiralongkorn Dam and the Sri Nakarin Dam, where average water storage is at 78 percent of total capacity.
The Science and Technology Minister has also expressed worries over the drought situation in Thailand’s Northeast and South. He has assigned the ministries of Agriculture, Interior, and Natural Resources to look into this problem already.
