BANGKOK, 1 April 2013 The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has assured that Thais will have enough electricity during April as the EGAT has ample supply backup.

EGAT Governor Sutat Patmasiriwat has reckoned that the power consumption in the month of April will be at 26,600 megawatts due to hot weather condition, especially between April 5-14; during which the temperature will be as high as 40 degrees Celsius. However, the governor is confident that there will not be any black out because the private power producers will increase its production by 200 megawatts, while the industrial sector has promised to lower its power consumption by as much as 1,000 megawatts.

The governor is also urging Thais to use less electricity during the period by turning off or unplugging all electrical devices and appliances when they are not in use.

He further stated that the EGAT will hold a campaign at the Government House on April 4th to encourage the public to consume less energy. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra
