BANGKOK, 15 August 2011– The Ministry of Education has decided to carry on the 15-year free education scheme with adjustments on certain areas while promising that the amount of support will not be less than before.

Speaking of the 15-year free education project previously adopted by the Democrat-led administration, Education Minister Worawat Ua-apinyakul confirmed that the project would be maintained as it had been included in the Constitution. However, details of the scheme will need to be discussed for further improvement, including the extent of assistance and coverage, its ability to answer parents’ needs and any additional support to be given as necessary. He assured that the scheme would be even more beneficial than it was during the previous government.

In regard to the second decade education reform, also implemented by the Democrat Party, Mr Worawat pointed out that it would be given new targets, which were the contribution towards national development, the enhancement of the country’s competitiveness and the increase of students’ chances of getting hired after graduation.
