The project was approved at a meeting of the Civil Service Commission in Higher Education Institutions chaired by Mr. Chaturon Chaisang, Minister of Education. The 10-year program will focus on ‘personnel development’ by offering 16,000 scholarships worth a total of 43.5 billion baht to lecturers to take PhD courses either in Thailand or abroad. Another 3.7 billion baht will be set aside for the development of teachers’ knowledge, 372.5 million baht for the promotion of educational management efficiency, and 147.9 million baht for the project’s management.
Minister Chaturon revealed after the meeting that the long-term program is expected to help raise the standards of Thai universities to win greater recognition on a global scale while more positions at the professor’s level will be available in universities. The program will prepare university lecturers to adapt themselves to the changing world.
The program will be soon proposed to the cabinet for approval.
