DPM expresses condolences for flood disaster in Myanmar

KUALA LUMPUR – 4 August 2015 – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs expressed his condolences for flood disaster in Myanmar at the ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meetings.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn has expressed his sympathy for the current flood disaster in Myanmar to the Minister for Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin, at the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The flood disaster currently covers four areas in Myanmar including the Chin State, Rakhine State, Magway Region, and Sagaing Region. Other areas have also been affected, due to continued heavy rains since mid May 2015, under the influence of the Komen Storm from the Bay of Bengal.

People affected from this disaster range between 67,000 – 110,000, while 21 fatalities have been confirmed by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as of 30 July 2015.

The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon has reported that no Thai nationals are affected from this incident, and assured that the embassy will continue to monitor the situation closely.
