Defense Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat revealed on Monday that he considers the government’s pushing forward with amnesty law a good start.
Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol stated that it is now the time to see who deserves an amnesty while noting there is nothing that can be done with those who declined the invitation to join the discussion.
He stressed that people who are behind bars and should be released do not deserve to wait for the government to delay the amnesty much longer while no one should also wait for the Democrat Party to partake in the process.
When asked who should be granted amnesty, Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol said the Defense Ministry has no responsibility to give any opinion on the issue.
Concerning the government’s recent signing of a peace agreement with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) group, the Defense Minister stated that there have only be talks between the two sides and no action has been made although the progress is a good sign for peace.
