PATTANI, 30 July 2012  – The Defense Minister has expressed grief over the recent deaths of four soldiers in Pattani province and promised to tighten local security measures, following a series of attacks by southern militants.

Defense Minister ACM Sukampol Suwannathat yesterday extended his condolences over the fatal shooting of four soldiers in Pattani. He asserted that security in the South will be increased due to recent terrorist activities.

He elaborated that the Royal Thai Army and the Fourth Army Region have not been complacent in resolving the southern insurgency and are urging further cooperation from residents in the affected areas.

According to the Minister, militants are stepping up the frequency of their attacks to escalate violence in the southernmost provinces. He, however, declined to further comment whether the violent attacks are linked to external factors.
