Defense Minister leads delegation on Deep South visit

YALA, 22 March 2013 The Defense Minister has led Cabinet ministers and the media to restive Deep South to get first-hand information on how the government has been tackling insurgent violence in the region. 

Defense Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol Suwanatat, on Thursday, led Deputy Interior Minister Pracha Prasopdee and Deputy Education Minister Sermsak Pongpanich as well as members of the press media to the southern border region.

The trip was intended to follow up on the progress of all works handled by security agents in the restive region and to check on the government-sponsored “Revelation: BRN-Coordinate Operation” activities, held at 11 locations in the far South.

During the visit, Air Chief Marshal Sukumpol and the delegation also met with senior officers from the Fourth Army Region, the Southern Border Provinces Administration Center (SBPAC) and the Southern Border Province Police Bureau to get updates on their operations implemented in accordance with the government policies.

Later in the day, the Defense Minister opened in a seminar on the Deep South situation, which was joined by the deputy interior minister, the deputy education minister, the Fourth Army Region commander and the SBPAC secretary-general.
