BANGKOK, 2 September 2014  – The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department made known that the floods in 18 provinces throughout the country have eased but more storms and flash floods are still expected in many parts of Thailand.

The department said a low pressure cell over the lower parts of the north has brought heavy rains to many provinces. 18 provinces nationwide such as Mae Hong Son, Sukhothai, and Chiang Mai have been hit hard by the floods, which have killed 7 people and affected more than 8,000 households.

Currently, all flood-hit provinces except Phichit, Nakhon Sawan, and Nakhon Ratchasima have recovered from the deluge.

The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) also reported that during September 2-3, flash floods and landslides are set to hit a number of northern, northeastern, and eastern provinces. Residents in these provinces have been told to be on high alert.

The department has teamed up with the military and other related units to provide assistance to flood victims and to survey damages across the regions.
