BANGKOK, 25 May 2015 – The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) is confident that the new charter will not be rejected and affirmed that the new constitution will bring sweeping reforms to the country.

CDC Chairman Borwonsak Uwanno has expressed his confidence that the National Reform Council will vote to approve of the new constitution. In response to criticism that the new charter adopts too much from foreign constitutions, he pointed out that the content in chapter 4 regarding reform and reconciliation cannot be found in any previous Thai charter.

He further explained that the new constitution will be titled the “reform constitution” as it is designed to empower citizens and support the private sector in its participation in politics and economics. Furthermore, the new constitution will overhaul the country’s budget with the establishment of a fiscal expense act, which will make all public accounts transparent and control the use of state funds.
