Ms Pornthiva stated that she has ordered Thai commercial counselors under the Royal Thai Embassies worldwide to report the situation in the Middle East, especially in Libya and Japan in order to prepare measures to cushion possible impacts to Thai trade.
Moreover, the commercial counselors have been asked to urgently propose appropriate assistance measures, as well as evaluate local people’s demand for goods, particularly consumer products.
Regarding the current oil price hike, the minister said the situation had prompted her ministry to closely monitor the violence in the Middle East and in Lybia. She said any situation affecting global oil prices would also affect Thailand’s overall economy.
Ms Pornthiva added that the ministry is also preparing to seek new markets in the Middle East and other regions as part of its proactive strategy to expand the export of Thai products, especially consumer goods.
