CHIANG RAI, 28 July 2014  – Officials in Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai province are quickly cleaning up the areas recently affected by flooding.

The Mae Sai municipality and related government units are providing relief operations to assist local residences, stores and restaurants devastated by the flooding.

Continuous rainfall the night before had caused the water level in Mae Sai River to drastically rise to more than four meters at the Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge. Water overflowed into trading areas on both sides of the Mae Sai, which also serves as border line between Thailand and Myanmar.

At the moment water has receded to a normal level allowing locals and officials to begin clearing away mud and rocks that have scattered all over the roads.

Restaurants and stores expected they would be able to resume services as usual very soon, if no more flooding occurs.
