BANGKOK, 3 July 2015 – A citizen’s group has submitted a petition to the National Reform Council (NRC) to revise the community forest bill to include local participation and ensure equal rights.

The citizen’s group for social justice argued that the bill would strip public participation from the management of community resources forests. The group asked that the draft community forest act be revised to promote local participation in the management of community forests under the principle of equal rights.

The group cautioned that if the reform body decides to proceed with the current version, then the group would be fully committed to opposing the legislation.
