BANGKOK, 7 January 2013  The Thailand Post has launched a Children’s Day stamp, depicting ASEAN children dressed in their national costumes. The stamp is Thailand’s longest stamp ever produced.

The stamp is 124 millimeters long, surpassing the 116-millimeter royal barge Suphannahongsa collection issued in 1997. The world’s longest stamp, at 162 millimeters long, was released in 2011 to mark the 45th anniversary of Singaporean-Egyptian diplomatic relations.

The new stamp also echoes this year’s Children’s Day motto of the Prime Minister which says “Uphold Discipline, Enhance Knowledge and Bring Thailand towards ASEAN”. The regional grouping will transform into ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

The stamp shows children from 10 ASEAN nations dressed in their national costumes with respective national flags on top. The stamp will be sold on the Children’s Day or January 12th onwards, at the price of five baht each.

On the occasion of the National Children’s Day, Newsline on NBT will be holding a ‘children news reading competition’ in English language for children aged 7-13 years old. Interested participants may register for the competition at the NBT station on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road from 7.30-9.30 a.m. on January 12th. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
